Stop Being A Bystander In Your Own Life

"Life doesn't go from A to B -- it's messy," says sailing legend Tracy Edwards. In this inspiring talk, she tells how she went from teenage misfit to skipper of the first all-female crew in the toughest race on the seas -- and how she now helps young people around the world achieve their dreams, too. This talk was presented at an official TED conference, and was featured by our editors on the home page.

About the speaker Tracy Edwards · Trailblazer Tracy Edwards MBE battled against the odds (and the sea) to become the first woman to win the Yachtsman of the Year Trophy.

Success And How To Achieve It

Success And What It Takes

Summer is here once more and with it all sorts of Championships, be it the Tour de France, or Wimbledon that has just ended, or this year marks five years since the London Olympics.  The article deals with success and how to achieve it.

Many people are under illusions that success comes without having to put too much work into it, but ask the Athletes and you hear a somewhat different story.

Imagine the looks on people's faces when someone says, "You don't need to buy a lighter bike. You'd be a lot better off if you lost 10 or 20 pounds."

(We'll get back to that lovely little scene in a moment.)

Many people feel that buying something new -- new technology, new devices, new systems, new "stuff" -- is the key to success. They're convinced that what they have is not enough. What holds them back are the things they don't have.

But that is rarely true. Most people can't work to the limits of what they already have, much less approach the limits of whatever is newer, or faster, or better.

But that doesn't stop people from spending more time searching for better stuff than they do searching for ways to improve themselves.

Goal Setting

Goal setting is vital in order to succeed in anything.  Daily tasks done consistently will take you to your desired outcome.  It is not always easy as there are so many distractions that can upset the routine but the reward of persevering is great.  Many people have done it and if we motivate ourselves, it should not be too difficult.  At the bottom of it all is the overwhelming desire to succeed.
