Popular Kitchen Remedy Puts Antibiotic To Shame

Popular Kitchen Remedy Puts Antibiotic To Shame

So often I am reading about natural antibiotics.  Well, here is one:

Fighting infection with conventional antibiotics is becoming a hopeless affair. The CDC recently warned these drugs are useless in combatting deadly “super germs.” So what can one do? Your kitchen holds the key.

Every day in this country, all day long, patients and doctors reach for conventional antibiotics when opportunistic infections present themselves. The fact that most infections are self-limiting (the body has an immune system, we often forget), and that antibacterial antibiotics are often administered for viral infections, against which they are useless and even infection-promoting, is rarely if ever acknowledged. There is also the problem that antibiotics themselves drive the growth of antibiotic resistant subpopulations of bacteria, effectively creating “super germs” in the process. This effect can adversely alter the microbial substrate for our health for months, years, and perhaps for our entire lifetime (and our progeny’s lifetimes).

The Antibiotic Apocalypse Advances

The Antibiotic Apocalypse Advances

This report makes grim reading, but whether we like it or not, antibiotics have lost their power somewhat in healing infections...............

  • Bacteria can quickly develop extreme resistance to antibiotics, surviving antibiotics at a dose 1,000 times higher than they could initially survive in a matter of 11 days
  • Application of manure from swine CAFOs can spread drug-resistant bacteria and other viral pathogens into watersheds, thereby threatening human health. Drug-resistant CAFO bacteria are also spread by winds
  • Tens of thousands of illnesses and deaths from drug-resistant infections go uncounted as federal and state agencies do not systematically track them. This suggests the problem is FAR greater than currently thought

Antibiotics No Longer Work

Antibiotics no longer work

For some time now we have been hearing that antibiotics have lost their power to heal infections.  It is therefore imperative that other methods of treating these infections are found.

Perhaps it is time we reverted back to natural remedies.  It is said that for every ailment, there is a herb out there which I am sure is how nature has intended.

In this article are a few situations that can help us use the right concoction for first aid at least.

Drug Resistant Gene Confirmed In The US

Drug Resistant Gene Confirmed In The US

This is truly alarming and calls for extreme caution:

"For a long time, there have been newspaper stories and magazine articles that asked 'The end of antibiotics?' Well, now I would say you can change the title to 'The end of antibiotics, period.'"  Dr. Arjun Shrinivasan

  • Mcr-1 is a gene mutation that makes bacteria resistant to our last resort class of antibiotics. The rate of transfer of resistance between bacteria is exceptionally high, making it a formidable threat to human health
  • Less than a year after the mcr-1 gene was discovered in pigs and people in China, it has now been identified in a pork sample and a patient being treated for E.coli in the U.S.
  • According to the most thorough review of the drug resistance problem to date, drastic measures are needed, including improved sanitation and the elimination of unnecessary antibiotics in farming and human medicine

Under the Weather? A Blood Test Can Tell If Antibiotics Are Needed

Under the Weather? A Blood Test Can Tell If Antibiotics Are Needed

This is a very important issue.  Under the weather, frequent colds, lethargy, lack of umph?  These conditions can have their causes in many deficiencies in the body which can not necessarily be treated with antibiotics alone.

I recall the time just four years ago when a nephew of mine, who had been suffering from frequent colds and infections.  His mother insisted that he had a blood test to establish the cause.  He was 17 years of age at the time just about to take his Baccalaureate.

Imagine the shock when the test results revealed acute leukemia.  He survived after several rounds of chemotherapy and thanks to bone marrow his twin brother was able to give for the transplant.

The moral of the story is, if you suffer from the above symptoms, insist on a blood test.

Fast Food - Secrets Finally Revealed

This video will really make you think twice about Fast Food.  It is alarming what goes on behind the scenes in the Restaurants.  The safest bet is by far to buy your own food and cook it from scratch albeit a very time consuming exercise.  To think that a treat for children is to go to Maconalds for a Hamburger.   They grow up not even knowing the taste of real food.

  • Chipotle’s and Panera Bread were the only fast food chains that earned “A” ratings; they are the only two that transparently affirm the majority of the meats served come from antibiotic-free producers
  • Most fast food restaurants are still serving meat and poultry raised on antibiotics, despite the known health risks. Of the 25 restaurant chains included in the report, 20 received a “Failing” score
  • The US uses nearly 30 million pounds of antibiotics each year to raise food animals. This accounts for about 80 percent of all antibiotics used; nearly 70 percent of which are medically important for humans

Junk Food And Antibiotics - The Dangers To Our Health

This article requires serious consideration.  The consumption of junk food has taken it's toll on health around the world.  It is totally alarming to think that humanity destroys itself through eating.  But not only that, too many antibiotics have been dished out by doctors so that the body is no longer responding to their healting powers.  I wonder what comes next?

  • Recent studies show that one-half of all Americans are either prediabetic or diabetic. In the UK, diabetes rates have soared 60 percent in the last decade
  • Diabetic women under the age of 45 have a six-fold greater risk for heart attack, recent research shows
  • Guidance on diabetes testing, and lifestyle changes to prevent and/or reverse type 2 diabetes are included

Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic Resistance

Important information for the future of antibiotic resistance.

By 2050, antibiotic resistance is estimated to kill 10 million people annually, worldwide. At present, at least 23,000 Americans die as a direct result of an antibiotic-resistant infection each year
  • The routine use of antibiotics in livestock is a major driver of drug-resistance. Commonly used herbicides also promote antibiotic resistance by priming pathogens to more readily become resistant to antibiotics
  • DNA from antibiotic-resistant bacteria found in cattle yards are also airborne; in addition to contaminated water and meat, this is yet another route of exposure for animals and humans alike

How To Avoid Weight Gain

As ever, the question of weight gain is serious and detrimental to our health.  The article below gives a few reasons why we gain weight apart from big portions.  Of course with all the diets on offer today and promising quick fixes, the fact that healthy eating and watching out how many calories we actually consume is overlooked.   A simple plan carefully working out the required Protein, Carbohydrate and Vitamins and Minerals would go a long way to reducing weight.  Added to this a regular workout would ensure a healthy slim body.  It all comes back to sensible nutritional facts and habits.

Soil Bacteria May Provide Clues to Curbing Antibiotic Resistance

Soil Bacteria May Provide Clues to Curbing Antibiotic Resistance

Newswise — Drug-resistant bacteria annually sicken 2 million Americans and kill at least 23,000. A driving force behind this growing public health threat is the ability of bacteria to share genes that provide antibiotic resistance.

Bacteria that naturally live in the soil have a vast collection of genes to fight off antibiotics, but they are much less likely to share these genes, a new study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has revealed. The findings suggest that most genes from soil bacteria are not poised to contribute to antibiotic resistance in infectious bacteria.

Where to Find Grass-Fed Beef, Raw Milk, and Pastured Eggs

In the grand scheme of all that is wrong with modern agriculture, the unnatural transition that turned cattle, which naturally eat only grass, into grain-eating ruminants is definitely toward the top of the list.
CAFO cows are fattened for slaughter in gigantic feedlots as quickly as possible (on average between 14 and 18 months) with the help of grains and growth promoting drugs, including antibiotics.
This routine practice, which is done purely for financial reasons, has led to the current scourge of antibiotic-resistant disease, which now kills at least 23,000 Americans each year. Other growth-promoters commonly used in US beef have been banned in most other countries due to suspected health effects, both in animals and consumers.

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

Once again an alarming statistic which we cannot ignore.  We need to protect ourselves from these everyy increasing suber bugs that kill.  How sad to think that we go into the hospital to get well and come out worse off or even dead.

Antibiotic overuse and inappropriate use – such as taking antibiotics to treat viral infections -- bears a heavy responsibility for creating the antibiotic-resistant superbug crisis we are facing today.
