Queen’s Researchers Make Breakthrough in Fight Against Superbug

Queen’s Researchers Make Breakthrough in Fight Against Superbug

Great news about this breakthrough in the fight to cure the Superbug.  My heart leaps every time there is a breakthrough in finding a solution to the dreadful bugs that threaten our health.

Newswise —. The research carried out by Professor Jose Bengoechea, Director at the Centre for Experimental Medicine at Queen’s University, and his team unveiled the molecular mechanisms preventing the treatment of klebsiella pneumonia. The multi-drug resistant microbe can cause bladder infections, pneumonia and has mortality rates of 25-60 percent.

Professor Jose Bengoechea said: “While it has been widely recognised that klebsiella is becoming resistant to the last line antibiotic, until now the precise underlying molecular explanation has not been understood.”

The research, which has been published in the journal EMBO Molecular Medicine, was funded by The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Bacteria Invade Antibiotics And Turn Into Superbugs

How Bacteria Becomes Superbug

Our lives are threatened by bacteria and they are lurking everywhere.  Unfortunately, Antibiotics no longer kill them off as we have become immune in some cases.

This becomes dangerous when Bacteria invade Antibiotics and become Superbugs which are so hard to treat.

It pays to be aware of this and the article and video go on to explain in more detail.

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

Once again an alarming statistic which we cannot ignore.  We need to protect ourselves from these everyy increasing suber bugs that kill.  How sad to think that we go into the hospital to get well and come out worse off or even dead.

Antibiotic overuse and inappropriate use – such as taking antibiotics to treat viral infections -- bears a heavy responsibility for creating the antibiotic-resistant superbug crisis we are facing today.
