RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA, TV) - Dress for success is a worldwide organization and has been in Rapid City for about a year now.
All of the items in the store are donated, which means their clients don't have to pay for anything.
Women are referred to the shop from other non-profit organizations.
Currently, this store has suited 50
women and is looking to help out even more, but to do that they need
more volunteers since the store is entirely run by them.
By having more help, it will provide their clients with more opportunities for people to make appointments to come in.
"It's really truly about being able to
lift up their spirits to help the women our clients understand that they
can be their own best version of themselves. There is nothing
preventing them from doing that, and we are here to support them in
that. So we really look for volunteers who are passionate about building
each other up. Building woman up in our community and truly just
building are community up," says Executive Director, Sarah Baker.
Baker says that if people have clothes
hanging in their closet that they don't wear anymore, they can donate it
to the store in August.
If anyone is interested in volunteering they can email Dress for Success at BlackHills@dressforsuccess.org.
Part of stylish dressing is paying attention to your body shape!
We’ve grown up reading magazine articles on how to dress for certain
body types. How to dress for “pear shape” or “apple shape,” or maybe you
considered yourself a part of the “ruler” category, describing “lean,
narrow-hipped women with small chests.”
But we are not inanimate objects. We are women who are strong and
beautiful, no matter what fruit our silhouette most resembles. We do not
fit any particular mold, nor do we have to dress based on the “type” we
best fit in to. There are no easily-defined body shapes for every
single woman because the great thing about being a woman is that no one
else in the world has your exact body.
Instead of trying to dress to fit a mold, we should be dressing to
highlight what makes us unique; the things about ourselves that make us
feel confident, and what we love and appreciate.
So this post is not one of those magazine articles that will tell you
what you can and cannot wear based on what inanimate object your body
most resembles — this post is to help you think about what you love
about yourself, and to give you tips on how to highlight those features.
Whether a magazine would tell you that you look like a pear, apple, a
ruler, or any other inanimate object, you should be dressing the way you
want to dress, in the way you feel most confident. Here’s some tips to help you get there:
I have shared many posts about this topic and it is an important one as we are still judged by the way we look and dress.
The
mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic
independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and
the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. By
empowering women with interview and work attire — as well as through
mentoring, networking and support services — the goal of Dress for
Success is to assist women in transitioning to employment.
It is always good to read about such schemes as they may give ideas to others.
INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Women who have faced tough times and are now trying to get their lives back on track need your help.
You can help out by giving them a new suit to wear for their next job interview.
This
week is Send One Suit Week for "Dress for Success" here in
Indianapolis. It's an annual fundraiser to collect suits and blouses for
women in need.
Secretary of State Connie Lawson is taking part by
collecting donations for the fifth year in a row. Her office says
Secretary Lawson's collections have gathered more than 1,000 suits over
the past four years.
"Ultimately, these suits do more than help
women get jobs; they help them move towards economic independence,"
Secretary Lawson said in a statement. "I encourage everyone to look in
their closet this week to see if they have a least one suit they can
donate."
If you would like to donate through the Secretary of
State's office, drop off your donation anytime this week from 8 a.m. -
4:30 p.m. at Room 201 of the Statehouse.
Classic Cleaners is also helping out with this clothes drive. Click here for more on how you can help or to make a donation.
Stylish dressing is just about assembling your clothes in a color coordinated fashion and matching items of clothing with each other, for one to complement the other piece.
Anyone can achieve the dress for success label by paying attention to color and not mixing too many in one outfit.
Check the article by clicking on the link above which explains how this outfit is put together. There are merely three or four colors at play here.
I always love it when I see features like the one below where women are helped to gain confidence through whatever means. Dress for Success is one such feature and goes a long way to building self-esteem and confidence. When we feel well dressed, we feel confident, it's as simple as that. This scheme helps women into employment which is another facture in gaining confidence.
Dressing for success is as important today as it has ever been. In today's casual dressing culture anyone who dresses well stands out by a mile. Good clothes and knowing how to carry them off and combining them shows the person cares about him/herself. It immediately makes an impression.
That is why helping women to achieve this to get better jobs is such a worthwhile occupation!
As a Style Coach, I always welcome advice from other Style Experts, especially if it can result in making women feel more confident and happy about their appearance. Often after a few years of raising children and dressing in comfort clothes, women become less aware of what suits them and what is the fashion of the day.
Enjoy the article and I hope you get many great tips and lots of advice to step out in wonderfully combined clothes which raise your confidence and well-being!
The importance of being smart in your job cannot be underestimated. It has always been said that dress maketh the man. In these days of casual dressing, people no longer make the effort. Yet, dressing appropriately conveys self-respect which is so important in a job. When we respect ourselves, other people will respect us too.
