Air Pollution - The Silent Killer

Air Pollution - The Silent Killler

I was aware how detrimental air pollution is to our health but had no idea it was this serious.  It looks like with all our gadgets of the modern world, we have created literal death traps through in air pollution.  How very and ever more important preserving green spaces and getting out into the countryside really is for our health, not to mention cutting down on using the car, recycling and generally being aware about what could contribute to air pollution and changing habits.

  • According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 4 deaths are related to living and working in a toxic environment. Air pollution is the greatest contributor to this risk
  • Air pollution is a major contributor to lung and respiratory infections, heart disease, and cancer. Of the top environmentally related deaths in 2012, stroke was No. 1, followed by heart disease
  • Proactive measures pay off. In one Brazilian city, improvements in waste recycling, public transport, and pedestrian walkways has led to lower air pollution, and life expectance is 2 years longer than the national average
