The Southwest Florida Community Foundation
began with the unmet needs of one woman’s charitable plans for the
future. She came to her attorney, Tom Smoot, with plans to benefit
several causes upon her death. He realized a community foundation model
in Southwest Florida would be a suitable vehicle to help such donors.
