This article and video gives us some indication on the dangers of sitting for too long.  Office workers often sit all day and don't even go out of the building for lunch.  This can be detrimental to health as movement is crucial for a healthy balanced daily routine.

It is very easy to stay put at ones desk for the entire shift because people believe they get their exercise on the way home when they perhaps have to walk but very often it is a car journey which means more sitting and often being stuck in a traffic jam which increases the time spent sitting even more.

  • Swapping two hours of sitting a day with two hours of standing or stepping leads to improvements in triglycerides, waist circumference, cholesterol levels and more 
  • Taking 10,000 steps a day may lead to weight loss and lower blood pressure
  •  Sitting for eight hours or more each day is associated with heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and all-cause mortality
