Grief Can Weigh on Immune System in Older Folks

Just yesterday we heard on TV how older men find themselves very lonely after losing their wives.  This can lead to depression and of course to a lowering of the Immune System as emotions play a large part in how the body reacts.  It can't be stressed enough to get older people out of their homes and into the Community to avoid the pitfalls of loneliness.

There are many organisations out there that offer companionship, at least during the day and doing Charity work can also help alleviate the loneliness.  The Ramblers Association also offers activities and the website, Meet-up.com is a wonderful place to make friends.

How to Cope with Grief

A friend has just emailed me to ask how she could help a good friend of hers who has lost her husband suddenly.  I won't know the finer details until tomorrow but have been searching on YouTube to be able to help readers understand grief.  It is a fact of life and happens to someone each and every day out there.  I hope this video helps understanding grief and reassure people that it is a natural process and each person grieves in a different way and a different length of time.   There can never be situations that have a time limit because of the different circumstances and emotional ties that bound a bereaved person to the departed one.
