There are lots of vegetable crops that can be sown in March, when the days are beginning to lengthen and become warmer.

Some crops, such as chillies and tomatoes, need to be sown early in the year in order to give them the long growing season they need. Others, such as fast-growing beetroot and salads can be started off early so that you can enjoy them in late spring and early summer – keep sowing them every few weeks to extend the harvest.

Tender crops like aubergines need to be sown under glass, either in a greenhouse or on a sunny windowsill. Hardier crops like beetroot and broad beans can be sown directly into the ground outdoors, just don’t sow if the ground is frosty or covered in snow.

Refrigerate Tomatoes

We learn something new every single day.   This study about why Tomatoes should never be refridgerated interested me as I love Tomatoes, especially home-grown ones or those which have ripened in warmer climates.  They have a sweeter taste than those which have been grown in Greenhouses, probably in cold climates.  As the article explains the Tomatoes we buy are picked in a green state and then shipped.  In the Refridgerator, they will not ripen and so the taste is lost.  The times I have eaten tasteless Tomatoes and wondered what has happened and now here is the answer.

As with every vegetable that is grown organically, the taste is second to none.  So it is best never to refrigerate Tomatoes.  I wonder though what the Chefs do in the big Restaurants?

I guess the answer to this is to buy small quantities because in the Summer Tomatoes can rot quite quickly but when you need them in bulk, that is not so easy.
