The Dangers of Sleeping Too Much

The Dangers of Sleeping Too Much

Sleep has always been regarded as a restorative healer but according to this article too much sleep can be detrimental to health especially for older people.  The key is a healthy balance of sleep and activity.

  • Seniors who regularly slept more than eight hours per night had a 46 percent increased risk of stroke compared to those who slept between six and eight hours per night
  • Other health effects associated with consistently sleeping too much include depression, diabetes, weight gain, headaches, heart problems, a decline in brain health, and premature death
  • To maintain healthy master clock timing, get bright outdoor light exposure during the day. This helps anchor your circadian rhythm so that light at night has less of an ability to disrupt your biological clocks
