Are you a person who has a fear of flying? I know I get very nervous when there is turbulence. Some people though have a real phobia and either don’t fly or sit in fear during an entire flight whilst their fellow passengers are able to sleep or watch a film.
I was very pleased to find an article that described this desperate fear of flying. It is a real phobia and like all phobias they are largely in the mind.
Nicole Ettinger, who wrote the article, described her fear and has on occasions missed flights because of it.
That was, until she saw a feature where Virgin Atlantic offered a one day course entitled “Flying without fear”, which shows how common this fear really is among the population.
This course offers help in giving statistics about Flight Safety and really worldwide, more people die in road accidents than by air travel and gives figures about the marvel of the Rolls Royce Engines that power the planes. Then an expert in subliminal programming gives his teaching on conquering fear and images of safe landings. And finally all the course's attendants go a short thirty minute flight over Gatwick Airport. They are advised to put an elastic band onto their wrists to snap it every time the fear resurfaces to remind themselves that there really is nothing to fear.
Well, the course certainly worked for Nicole who is now flying regularly, not sure where the fear came from and where it went and she only wishes she had taken this course earlier.
It is offered by Virgin Active, called “Flying Without Fear”, and costs £225 per person. Website: flyingwithoutfear.co.uk. More information about overcoming fear can be obtained by visiting: creatingmore.co.uk.
