The fact that bacteria remains on objects for long periods would account for people getting infections where they are not aware from where they contracted them.  Hygiene is one of the most important issues surrounding children and patients as well as the population in general.  The viruses we pick up each year are so numerous now that extra vigilance is of utmost importance.  The spread of the Hospital MRSA is in itself totally alarming because this has spread so rapidly and is so difficult to treat.
