One thing to do before signing off for the holiday

Today’s tip: Ease your return to work by writing your to-do list now for the first day back.

The first workday after a long holiday weekend is like a regular Monday turned all the way up to 11: You’re grumpy, you’re moving slowly, and it takes all the energy you have just to shock your vacation-sleepy brain back into work mode. It’s no wonder that, as Emily Underwood explains, post-vacation burnout is a very real phenomenon.

To lessen the re-entry pain, take some of the mental burden away from your future self: “Write a detailed, not-too-ambitious to-do list for your first day or two back,” Underwood writes. That way, when the time comes, you can just follow the steps you’ve already outlined — no need to think too hard.
